I am taking a year-long sabbatical from teaching starting in August, 2022, so I am stepping out of the regular teaching I have been doing online for IMC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both classes will continue through the year! The Tuesday morning class will be held by Dawn Neal and Marjolein Janssen. The Thursday evening class will be held by Ari Crellin-Quick and Lienchi Tran.
People have been asking me what I will do on sabbatical. I asked another teacher the same question a few years ago, when Bhante Buddharakkhita was heading into his year of sabbatical. His response really resonated with me. He said that the sabbath year, from which the word sabbatical is derived, is a year to let the fields lie fallow, to rest. Bhante said that his sabbatical was about lying fallow and resting.
As fields are nourished in a different way with rest, we too are nourished through rest, through not having so much busyness in our lives, and that is also my intention for this year. While I plan to take several months of silent retreat during the year, I also intend to simply see what unfolds when there is less busyness!
May you be well, happy and peaceful. May the Dharma support, nourish and protect you.
