This Juneteenth, the Insight Meditation Center (IMC) invites you to join us in honoring the end of slavery and the ongoing journey toward freedom for all people. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates June 19, 1865 – the date when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas finally received word of their emancipation.
On Wednesday, June 19th, at 6 pm, we will gather via Zoom to reflect on the immense suffering caused by the institution of slavery and celebrate the enduring human capacity for liberation. Our evening will feature:
• A Guided Meditation on the Themes of Freedom and Inclusivity
• A Dharma Talk by Anne Roise on “The Intersection of Racial and Spiritual Liberation”
Anne has lovingly nurtured IMC’s Mindfulness Circle for Black Practitioners for several years. Please, join us for this powerful and historic evening of community, contemplation, and commitment to creating a truly inclusive space of refuge for all. This will be IMC’s first-ever Juneteenth commemoration event, marking an important step in our journey to become a more diverse and welcoming community.
As we acknowledge the systemic injustices that continue to manifest, may this Juneteenth catalyze our individual and collective resolve to keep uncovering the roots of suffering through wisdom and compassion.
